چکیده
Abstract Intense literature and research efforts have focussed on the exploration of complex hydrides for energy storage applications over past decades. A focus was dedicated to determination their thermodynamic hydrogen properties, due high gravimetric volumetric capacities, but application has been limited because harsh working conditions reversible release uptake. The present review aims at appraising recent advances different hydride systems, coming from proficient collaborative activities in years groups led by experts Task 40 ‘Energy Storage Conversion Based Hydrogen’ Hydrogen Technology Collaboration Programme International Energy Agency. An overview materials design, synthesis, tailoring modelling approaches, uptake mechanisms aspects are reviewed define new trends suggest possible these highly tuneable materials.

Complex Hydrides for Hydrogen Storage
Complex hydrides, containing a minimum of 7.5 wt% hydrogen, are being investigated as hydrogen storage compounds for automotive use. As a new project, the work to date has largely involved refurbishment of equipment and acquisition of study materials. Initial experiments have confirmed that the instrumentation is functioning and that the data being obtained agree with that in the literature. In...
متن کاملHydrogen storage in complex metal hydrides
Complex metal hydrides such as sodium aluminohydride (NaAlH4) and sodium borohydride (NaBH4) are solid-state hydrogen-storage materials with high hydrogen capacities. They can be used in combination with fuel cells as a hydrogen source thus enabling longer operation times compared with classical metal hydrides. The most important point for a wide application of these materials is the reversibil...
متن کاملHydrogen Storage in light complex Hydrides – structural studies
The most important unsolved problem for the introduction of the Hydrogen Economy is efficient and safe storage of hydrogen. Alanates, compounds based on the AlH4 unit, are among the most promising metal hydrides for reversible hydrogen storage. The storage capacity is large, e.g. NaAlH4 can release 5.6 wt% hydrogen below 200 C. Work during the last years has revealed that Ti additives improve t...
متن کاملComplex Metal Hydrides for Hydrogen, Thermal and Electrochemical Energy Storage
Hydrogen has a very diverse chemistry and reacts with most other elements to form compounds, which have fascinating structures, compositions and properties. Complex metal hydrides are a rapidly expanding class of materials, approaching multi-functionality, in particular within the energy storage field. This review illustrates that complex metal hydrides may store hydrogen in the solid state, ac...
متن کاملOn the Reversibility of Hydrogen Storage in Novel Complex Hydrides
A comparison of the hydrogen release and uptake (cycling) capability of Ti-doped NaAlH4, LiAlH4 and Mg(AlH4)2 as a function of Ti dopant concentration, temperature, pressure, and cycle number is reported. Temperature programmed desorption revealed hydrogen release capacities of around 3 wt% at 140 C, 3 wt % at 100 C and 6 wt% at 150 C, respectively for the Ti doped Na, Li and Mg alanates. In th...
